Learn AI art from scratch, Midjourney beginner tips and techniques
Welcome to Midjourney, where you transform text into stunning images! If you're ready to unleash your creativity, this guide will be your first step toward creating breathtaking images and exploring infinite possibilities.
Before you start creating your first masterpiece, you'll need to subscribe to one of our plans. Here's how to get started:
You'll see two registration options:
If you choose to continue with Google, the system will prompt you to enter your Google login information. If you choose to continue with Discord, you'll need to enter your Discord login information. You'll also be asked to authorize Midjourney to access your Discord account.
Important Note for Discord Users:
If you're linking an existing Discord account, double-check the email address associated with it. Entering an email not associated with a Discord account will prompt Discord to guide you through creating a new account. This could cause issues if you already have an account.
After setting up your account or subscribing, you can add other login options, such as adding Google if you started with Discord, or vice versa. Simply go to your account settings page on midjourney.com.
To link your past images and activities, please log in with your Discord account first. You'll also be asked to authorize Midjourney to access your Discord account.
Important Note:
Before clicking "Authorize," double-check that the Discord username shown at the top of the popup window is correct. If the username is incorrect, use the "Not you?" link.
After logging in, you can add Google as a login option by visiting your Account Settings page. This way, you can flexibly choose to use either method in the future.
Go to the Manage Subscription page on midjourney.com, scroll down to the plans section. Find your perfect plan and click the "Subscribe" button below it.
If you're unsure which plan to choose, our Compare Midjourney Plans article can help you decide.
At the top of the page, you'll see the imagine bar. Enter what you want to see here - this is your prompt.
Congratulations! You have successfully created your first set of Midjourney images.
Midjourney works best when personalized. Create moodboards and custom personalization profiles, which will help Midjourney generate unique images that match your personal style.
Once you've created an image with Midjourney, your creative journey doesn't have to end there. You have a series of tools to modify and enhance your images.
To start, click an image on your Create or Organize page to open it and display more options.
If the creation action buttons are missing, simply click "More Options" and check to make them visible.
Variations in Midjourney allow you to create multiple versions of an image with subtle or significant differences. This is especially useful when you're satisfied with the original image but curious about what changes might make it even better.
Upscaling takes images to the next level by increasing their size. Creative upscaling not only increases size but also adds subtle improvements, perfect when images need extra polish.
To upscale images without changing their content, use subtle upscaling.
Remix is a powerful feature that allows you to iterate on images by changing the prompt text. With remix, you can freely change prompt text and set parameters, creatively guiding the development of images.
Midjourney's editor integrates pan, zoom, and vary region (erase tool) in one interface if you want to make multiple modifications at once. You can also use these tools separately.
With Pan, you can extend the canvas of an image in a specific direction to add more content and change its aspect ratio.
Zoom Out lets you add more background and elements around the original image, effectively extending it beyond its current boundaries.
Vary Region / Erase is perfect for editing specific parts of an image, allowing precise modifications without changing other parts of the image.
On our website, in the creation actions section, you also have "Use" buttons that allow you to quickly and easily use generated images as image prompts, style references, or add prompt text to your Imagine bar for modification and re-run prompts
Animation tools can transform your images into engaging 5-second videos. Use the auto button to start directly, or use the manual button to adjust the video's prompt text.
You can change the default image generation settings at any time by clicking the settings icon in the Imagine bar.
